In a first for the Society’s Board of Directors, the annual Board meeting was held online, through the wonders of Zoom, necessitated by stay-at-home orders in the wake of the spread of the corona virus Covid-19. An earlier trial run had proved successful, and so on April 4th, 2020 at 9:30 am, President Diana Chappell called the meeting to order. Officers were elected, committee reports and updates were received, and tentative plans were made for future projects.

Officers for the 2020-2021 year are President, Bett Padgett; Vice-President, Judy Moon; Secretary, Cheryl Shelton-Roberts; and Treasurer, Bob DaVia. A new Board member, familiar to many of our members as “Keeper James, “ is James Charlet, former site manager of Chicamacomico Lifesaving Station, and author of a just published book, “Shipwrecks of the Outer Banks.” We look forward to James’ contributions to the Board.

Our Keepers’ Weekend for 2020 is tentatively scheduled for October 1-3, 2020 at Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, although health and/or weather concerns may require a change. The Board has voted to reevaluate these dates shortly after June 15th. Stay tuned for more information!
