"Skip" Dugger has been a long-time friend and supporter of the Outer Banks Lighthouse Society. We met Skip initially when her dear friend, Lloyd Childers, was Keeper at the Currituck Beach Lighthouse for the Outer Banks Conservationists as it re-opened the magnificently restored tower for climbing to the public over a decade ago. Lloyd was one of the primary board members for OBLHS and Skip always accompanied her to our annual meetings as well as our annual, special weekend events. Not one to mince words, Skip offered suggestions from the sideline and often brought joy and laughter to an otherwise serious meeting. Her obituary follows:
Rozann Ruby Dugger, 79 died peacefully on June 18, 2007 at Champions Assisted Living, Wilmington, NC. Rozann, known to many as “Skip,” was born in Troy, Ohio, on April 18, 1928, to Paul and Elizabeth Ruby. She received a Bachelors Degree from Miami University (Ohio), and a Masters Degree from The Ohio State University. She taught and coached at Auburn University, Butler University, St. Mary’s College, Raleigh, and the Governor Morehead School for the Blind in Raleigh. A great athlete and supporter of women's sports, Skip made a mark.
The Outer Banks Lighthouse Society mourns her death and we shall always remember her as a strong spirit for lighthouse preservation.
