Virginia Chadwick Howell
Virginia, a native of the Outer Banks and granddaughter of a Methodist minister who spent 50 years preaching in the most remote areas of the coastal areas of NC, has strong ties and a deep love of the coast. She describes herself as someone who has sand in her shoes and salt water in her veins. Currently residing in Raleigh, she is a member of the Office of the Provost at NC State University as the Provost’s webmaster and is the facilitator for the university's teaching awards and New Faculty Orientation. In addition to this she holds seats on several university committees. She was advisor for Native American student organizations on NCSU campus from 1995 until 2002, and has lectured and presented programs across the state on Native American issues and culture. She is also the exclusive US representative for a Nova Scotia artist who primarily works with boats and lighthouses. In her spare time, she is a product developer, graphic designer, and craft artisan which includes wood-turning and making hand-made books. Virginia also has a great passion for tall ships. Having owned and operated 2 successful photography studios with her husband Elijah, she still displays a great passion for photography. She spends most weekends restoring her old home place in Gloucester, NC.

Doward Jones
Doward, a resident of North Carolina, is chairman of the Washington County Waterways commission, a nonprofit that develops water related heritage projects for economic development through partnerships. Their latest project, a replica of the Roanoke River Lighthouse, which served from 1866-1885 was recently completed and opened to the public. He has experience in getting diverse groups to work together and where to go to get financial help. Doward is a photographer and has remained self-employed with self-owned businesses, presently Beacon Printing & Imaging in Plymouth, NC. His column “On Water Street” appears weekly in Plymouth’s newspaper, the Roanoke Beacon. As a third grader, he visited Cape Hatteras and has been captivated with lighthouses since.
