Virginia Chadwick Howell
Virginia, a native of the Outer Banks and granddaughter of a Methodist minister who spent 50 years preaching in the most remote areas of the coastal areas of NC, has strong ties and a deep love of the coast. She describes herself as someone who has sand in her shoes and salt water in her veins. Currently residing in Raleigh, she is a member of the Office of the Provost at NC State University serving in the Office of Faculty Development, and is the facilitator for the university's teaching awards and New Faculty Orientation. As well, she is the web administrator for her department and for the OBLHS. In addition to this she holds seats on several university committees. She was advisor for Native American student organizations on NCSU campus from 1995 until 2002, and has lectured and presented programs across the state on Native American issues and culture. She is also the exclusive US representative for a Nova Scotia artist who primarily works with boats and lighthouses. In her spare time, she is a product developer, graphic designer, and craft artisan which includes wood-turning, making jewelry, knitting "reading blankets", and making hand-made books. Virginia also has a great passion for tall ships. Having owned and operated 2 successful photography studios with her husband Elijah, she still displays a great passion for photography. She spends most weekends restoring her old home place in Gloucester, NC. And she LOVES the NC lighthouses.
