OAK ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE TRANSFER

October 18, 2004, a gala event was held at the Oak Island Lighthouse, and title was officially transferred from the U.S. Coast Guard to the Town of Caswell Beach. A transition team was appointed by Mayor Harry Sims to manage day-to-day activities in connection with the transfer and to develop recommendations for the long-term.

The Friends of Oak Island Lighthouse has since been formed.
